August 27, 2023 - Work continued this week at the site of the new Chick-fil-A coming to North Main Street. Construction has been moving at a rapid pace with framing now well underway. It should only be a few brief months until Shelbyville residents can enjoy the Lord’s chicken six days a week, without needing to drive to Tullahoma or Murfreesboro.

At Thursday’s Planning Commission meeting, development of a new McDonald’s planned for the corner of North Main Street and Hickory Drive was delayed after a disagreement emerged between the city and the developer over the results of a TDOT traffic study. Shelbyville Planning Director Waleed Albakry felt the results of the study necessitated traffic from the location only be allowed to turn right while exiting onto North Main and also onto Hickory Drive. The developer felt the study allowed exiting in both directions, so the Planning Commission voted to defer their vote on the plan. The city and developer plan to meet this week and could call a special Planning Commission meeting if an agreement can be reached.

On Saturday morning, the For Rent signs were removed from the windows of the former Fish Trapp and replaced with new Coming Soon signs. It appears another tenant may be preparing to attempt to make a go of this location that has proven to be difficult for numerous other restaurants. Shelbyville NOW will continue keeping tabs on the situation and let the community know if a new business opens at that location.

On Monday, August 21, Firehouse Subs opened to the public at 1807 North Main Street. It is the first tenant to open in the new four-unit shopping center across the street from Walmart. The other end of the building will feature the soon-to-open Dos Bros Mexican Grill and a UPS store has been announced for one of the two center locations. Shelbyville residents continue to await an announcement on the tenant of the last open spot in the building, with a Vape Shop being the most-requested possibility.
