April 3,  2024 - Crews Resigns from Shelbyville Police Department

A Message from Brian Crews

Last week, after 24 years of service with the City of Shelbyville, I informed the department of my intent to resign effective April 26, 2024.

It has been my honor to serve as the Deputy Chief of Police and to lead the Shelbyville Police Department in that capacity. I love this community, this department, and the men and women who sacrifice so much to keep Shelbyville safe. External and internal factors have led me to make this decision.

Since I was a young child, I have wanted to be the Chief of Police in my hometown. The closer I get to that opportunity, the more I realize the Lord has other plans for me. Making the decision now, although difficult, will allow the department to move forward.

I am proud of the things we have accomplished together, and I commit to work hard to assure a smooth transition.

Throughout my law enforcement career, there was never any doubt that the Lord’s hedge of protection was over me and the men and women of the SPD as I worked hard to fulfill HIS will for my life.

Over the last several weeks, I have sensed a new purpose for my life, one that I am sure some will not understand but also one I am excited to pursue.

I have accepted a position outside of local government into the corporate world with a company known for taking care of its employees, giving back to the community, supporting law enforcement and public education; all of which are very important to me both personally and professionally.

My family and I plan to remain in Shelbyville and to continue to be a part of this community. We also plan to continue to support the men and women of the Shelbyville Police Department. I encourage this community to continue to do the same.
