February 6,  2024 -  Sleepy Driver Busted For Drug Possession

by:  Bo Gill

On February 5, 2024 the Bedford county sheriffs department was dispatched out to Knob Creek Road in regards to a suspicious vehicle with unresponsive driver.

Upon arrival, Bedford County Sheriff‘s deputy Jacob Miller did observe the driver of the vehicle to be asleep. The deputy tapped on the glass of the driver window and did not get a response. After several attempts the deputy was finally able to open the driver side door. The driver did wake up and appeared to be startled by the deputies action and the car started to roll forward. The deputy gave several commands to stop the vehicle and the driver did stop the vehicle right before striking another vehicle in front of him.

After speaking with the man, Deputy Miller identified him as Brandon Schultz, 34, who’s address is listed as homeless.

After detaining the suspect the deputy did go inside to advise the complaints that the man had been secured and was detained while he was completing his investigation.

Deputy Miller then proceeded to contact the towing service to tow the vehicle from the private residence. As is normal procedure, the deputy then conducted inventory of the vehicle for the tow form. During the inventory the deputy found a clear container containing a single used syringe in the drivers door panel pocket. The deputy also found a clear container with a crystal like substance to be found in the center console area.  The deputy returned back to speak with Mr. Schultz about what the found  substance was, when he observed a plastic bag protruding out of Mr. Shultz’s hoodie pocket. The deputy retrieved the zip lock bag and observed several large crystal like substances in the bag. When I asked what the substance was in the bag all Mr. Shultz said was “it’s a clear crystal Substance”.

The deputy field tested the substance and it did test positive for methamphetamine and weighed 111 grams.

The suspect was arrested and charged with two counts of MFG/DEL/SELL of a controlled substance, possession of SCH. II Drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He’s being held on a $28,000 bond at the Bedford County Jail.
